A whole body view of intestinal biology
At the Cordero Lab, we are fascinated by the intricate world of the adult intestine and its profound impact to whole body function. Our research is dedicated to studying intestinal plasticity at the cellular and whole tissue level, including how tissues associated to the adult intestine might shape its ability to respond to diverse local and environmental challenges. We are also interested in the mechanisms underpinning the intestine's role in controlling whole-body homeostasis, and the effects of intestinal dysfunction on broad organismal stability.

Cross-species research
We combine work in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and mouse model systems to study intestinal biology and interorgan signalling in vivo.

Ou research approach
We used a wide variety of techniques and technologies (e.g imaging, omics, behavioural studies) and work across fields (biology, maths and physics) to address our research questions.
